What Drives Sump Pump Installation Cost in Ontario?
Two homes on the same street can land at different ends of the same range. These are the factors that move the number.
Pit depth and location
An open corner of an unfinished basement is quick. A finished room, a split-level (about +$400 in North York) or a deep pit in heavy clay takes longer.
Basin size and type
18 gallon sealed polyethylene basins are standard; 24 gallon basins suit fast-filling pits. Cracked basins on replacements are quoted separately.
Pump brand and horsepower
A 1/3 HP cast iron Zoeller M53 or Liberty 257 suits most homes. 1/2 HP high-flow pumps cost more and are sized from a flow test.
Discharge run
A short line straight out the nearest wall costs less than a long run around finished ceilings or a reroute to stop freezing.
ECRA/ESA wiring
If there is no suitable outlet, a dedicated GFCI circuit from the panel is added to the quote.
Permit and paperwork
Drain permits, inspections and City subsidy filing are included with eligible installs. No extra admin fees.
Cheaper Up Front Is Not Always Cheaper
A plastic pump costs less on day one and typically lasts 5-7 years. Cast iron typically lasts 15-20 and handles long storm cycles far better. A single wet finished basement costs more than the difference many times over.
- Written 2-year workmanship warranty on every install
- No charge for permit filing or subsidy paperwork on eligible installs
- Free in-home assessment with camera scope and flow test

Pricing Questions
How much does sump pump installation cost in Toronto?
A new interior sump pump installation costs $1,800-$3,200 CAD in Toronto, with most jobs landing at $2,400-$2,800 before the $500 City subsidy, or $1,900-$2,300 after it. Pit depth, basin size, pump brand and discharge run drive the final price.
How much is the City of Toronto sump pump rebate?
The Basement Flooding Protection Subsidy pays up to $500 for a sump pump, or up to $1,750 when combined with a backwater valve ($1,250 + $500). It covers Toronto addresses only; other GTA municipalities run their own programs.
Do you file the subsidy application for me?
Yes, at no charge with an eligible install. We file the drain permit, coordinate the inspector, assemble the packet (permit #, inspection certificate, itemized paid invoice) and track the cheque, which usually arrives 6-8 weeks after submission.
Do you offer a warranty?
Every install comes with a written 2-year workmanship warranty. The pump manufacturer's warranty applies separately and varies by model.
How much does a sump pump and backwater valve combo cost?
$5,500-$9,500 CAD before the full $1,750 City subsidy. The standard package is a Mainline MBV valve, Zoeller M63 pump and Aquanot 508 battery backup on a dedicated GFCI circuit.
Should I repair or replace my sump pump?
Replace pumps over 10 years old or with burned motors, seized impellers or cracked basins ($1,500-$2,800). A stuck float or a single failed part on a younger pump is usually a $200-$500 repair.
Is the in-home assessment free?
Yes. The roughly one-hour visit includes a camera scope, flow test, written CAD quote and a City subsidy eligibility check, with no obligation.
