Sump Pump Installation Toronto installs and services sump pumps across Toronto and the GTA, from interior pit installs with Zoeller and Liberty submersible pumps to combination sump + backwater valve systems and smart WiFi alarm packages. A licensed Master Plumber pulls the City of Toronto drain permit where required, installs the pit, pump, discharge line and float switch to Ontario Plumbing Code Part 7, and files the Toronto Basement Flooding Protection Subsidy so homeowners recover up to $500 standalone or $1,750 as part of a combo. Published CAD pricing, 2 year workmanship warranty and 1,850+ installs behind us.

From our founder, a licensed Master Plumber "In our opinion, the April 2013 ice storm thaw changed what Toronto homeowners expect from a sump pump. Darren Mackenzie founded the company that year after watching older pumps burn out in 24-48 hour storm events and weeping tile piped into sanitary lines overload sewers across the city. That overload is still what we handle best. Honestly, we have never had a repeat caller wish they had waited one more spring thaw."

Why Toronto Basements Flood, and Why Most Calls Come Too Late

Look, most of our calls come after the fact. We would rather be here before the water does.

Pump dies mid-storm

The float sticks or the motor burns out halfway through a 24-48 hour storm, and water starts rising in a finished basement.

Weeping tile on the sanitary line

Your foundation drain still runs into the sewer, and nobody has explained what the City actually requires.

Subsidy confusion

A past claim was rejected, or you filed for the backwater valve and never claimed the $500 sump portion.

Insurer wants proof

After a sewer backup claim, your insurer wants an install and paperwork before it will renew.

No backup in a blackout

Storms that flood basements often take the power too, and a pump with no electricity is no help.

Worried about the mess

Cutting a basement floor sounds like dust everywhere and a wrecked room. It does not have to be.

25,000+

Toronto homes in the combined sewer area with weeping tile still piped to the sanitary line (City data).

300,000+

homes affected by the April 2013 Toronto ice storm thaw (Environment Canada).

Toronto gets two kinds of basement water. Groundwater pushes up through the slab when the soil around your foundation is saturated, and a sealed sump basin with a cast iron submersible sump pump is the fix. Sewage comes back up the floor drain when the City's combined sewers surcharge, and a backwater valve is the fix. Many older homes need both, especially where the weeping tile still drains to the sanitary line. Longer storm cycles since 2024 mean pumps run harder and longer, which is why we install cast iron by default and recommend a battery backup sump pump for finished basements.

Why Toronto Homeowners Hire Our Licensed Sump Pump Plumbers

Which, between you and me, is the whole reason this company exists. We watched too many neighbours get stuck in June mould because of a 200 dollar pump that burned out in May.

  • Subsidy filing included at $0. Permit, inspector, packet and cheque tracking, so the $500 sump portion never gets left on the table.
  • Published CAD pricing on every service. You know the range before we visit and get a written price before we start.
  • 24/7 live phone with weekend emergency dispatch. A real person answers when the pump dies at 2 a.m.
  • One-PDF adjuster packet. Permit, CSA B64.10 backflow cert, flow test, photos and invoice in one file for your insurer.
  • Cast iron pumps and sealed basins. Not bargain plastic. Cast iron typically lasts 15-20 years against 5-7.
  • Licensed and insured. Master Plumber (ON), CSA B64.10, ECRA/ESA pump wiring, WSIB and $2M CGL, plus a written 2-year workmanship warranty.

Straight Numbers, the Right Pump and the Paperwork Done

We only do sump pumps and the drainage work around them: pits, pumps, battery backups, backwater valves, weeping tile disconnections and interior perimeter drains. That focus is why we can publish prices. After 14 years and more than 1,850 installs in Toronto basements, we know what a North York split-level, a Scarborough clay-soil bungalow or a Riverdale century semi actually costs to do properly.

Every job starts with a free assessment that includes a camera scope and a flow test. The camera tells us where your weeping tile goes, which decides whether you need a pump, a disconnection or a combo. The flow test tells us how fast your pit fills, which decides the pump. A 1/3 HP cast iron pump is right for most Toronto homes; we only recommend 1/2 HP when the numbers say so. If you do not need the upsell, we will say so.

Then we do the part most contractors skip: the paperwork. We pull the drain permit, book the inspector, file the City subsidy and, if your insurer is involved, put every document they need into one PDF. Our brands are the ones Toronto plumbers trust in long storms: Zoeller, Liberty, Myers, Hydromatic and Wayne pumps, Zoeller Aquanot and Liberty SJ10 battery backups, and Mainline full-port backwater valves.

From First Call to Rebate Cheque: 8-10 Weeks

Here is the thing with the City of Toronto rebate: the sump pump portion gets forgotten. Most homeowners file for the backwater valve and leave 500 dollars on the table.

Filed with Toronto Building where required, about 5 business days.

  5. 5. Backflow test + flow test

We test the system and book the City inspection.

  6. 6. Inspector sign-off

A City inspector attends and signs off, usually the same week.

Sump Protection Built for Your Type of Toronto Home

Toronto Homeowners

Most of our work is on single family homes across the six Toronto districts, from 1960s bungalows in North York to century semis in Riverdale. If your basement sits below street level and you do not have a tested sump pump, you are who we built this service for.

Finished Basement Owners

If your basement has flooring, drywall, media equipment and furniture worth protecting, we plan a sealed basin install with a low-profile cover that sits flush with your floor finish. Smart WiFi alarms let you check pump status from your phone.

Insurance Claimants

After a sewer backup claim, we coordinate with your adjuster, bundle the drain permit, backflow test certificate and itemized invoice into one PDF and deliver the documents your underwriter wants to see before renewal.

Multi-Unit and Condo Owners

Duplexes, fourplexes, rooming houses and condo townhouses often need one properly sized mainline sump setup with a planned water-off window and paperwork for the board and insurer.

Pre-Sale Sellers

Selling soon? An inspection, flow test and written report answers the home inspector before they ask. If the pump has failed, a same-day replacement in the existing pit keeps the closing on track.

Sump Pump Installation in Toronto: Your Questions Answered

How much does sump pump installation cost in Toronto?

A new interior sump pump installation costs $1,800-$3,200 CAD in Toronto, with most jobs landing at $2,400-$2,800 before the $500 City subsidy, or $1,900-$2,300 after it.

Pit location and access drive the price more than anything. An open corner of an unfinished basement is quick work; a finished room, a split-level or a tight century semi takes more cutting, protection and clean-up. Basin size (18 gallons standard, 24 for heavy inflow), pump choice (a 1/3 HP cast iron Zoeller M53 or a 1/2 HP high-flow M63) and the length of the discharge run make up the rest. Heavy clay in parts of Scarborough adds digging time, and North York split-levels usually add about $400 for pit access. You get all of it in a written quote before we start, and that quote is the price you pay.

How much is the City of Toronto sump pump rebate?

The City of Toronto Basement Flooding Protection Subsidy pays up to $500 for a sump pump, or up to $1,750 when combined with a backwater valve ($1,250 + $500). It covers Toronto addresses only; other GTA municipalities run their own programs.

Here is the thing with the City of Toronto rebate: the sump pump portion gets forgotten. Most homeowners file for the backwater valve and leave 500 dollars on the table. To claim it, the City wants a drain permit number, an inspection certificate and an itemized paid invoice from a licensed contractor. We assemble and file that packet for you at no charge with an eligible install, then track the cheque. We never promise approval, because the City decides, but a complete packet gives you the best chance.

Do you file the subsidy application for me?

Yes, at no charge with an eligible install. We file the drain permit with Toronto Building, coordinate the inspector, assemble the packet (permit #, inspection certificate, itemized paid invoice) and track the cheque, which usually arrives 6-8 weeks after submission.

The most common reasons we see claims rejected are lump-sum invoices without itemized parts and labour, a missing permit or inspection, downspouts still tied to the sewer and DIY installs with no licensed contractor paperwork. If your first claim was rejected after another contractor did the work, we can usually pull the missing permit, arrange an inspection, reissue a proper invoice and refile.

How long does it take from first call to rebate cheque?

Plan on 8-10 weeks in total from first call to rebate in hand. The free assessment takes about an hour. Where a drain permit is required, filing takes about 5 business days. The install itself is 1-2 days on site: pit cut, basin, pump, float, check valve, discharge and ECRA/ESA wiring. We then run a backflow test and flow test and book the City inspector, who usually attends the same week. The subsidy packet goes in once the inspection is signed off, and the cheque usually arrives 6-8 weeks later.

Not glamorous, we know. But that is the honest timeline, and we would rather tell you up front than have you wondering in week five.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. Installs are led by a licensed Master Plumber (Ontario) with CSA B64.10 backflow prevention certification and ECRA/ESA licensed pump wiring. We carry WSIB coverage and $2M commercial general liability, and work is done to Ontario Plumbing Code Part 7 with permits and inspections where required.

That matters for more than peace of mind. The City subsidy needs a licensed contractor's itemized invoice, and many insurers ask for a CSA B64.10 backflow test certificate after a sewer backup claim. Every install also comes with a written 2-year workmanship warranty, on top of the pump maker's own warranty.

Is the in-home assessment free?

Yes. The roughly one-hour visit includes a camera scope, flow test, written CAD quote and a City subsidy eligibility check, with no obligation.

Do you offer 24/7 emergency sump pump repair?

Yes. The phone line is answered live 24/7, including weekends, with same-day dispatch. Common emergency fixes run $300-$850: burned motor $300-$500, stuck float $200-$300, frozen discharge thaw and reroute $400-$800.

How much does a sump pump and backwater valve combo cost?

$5,500-$9,500 CAD before the full $1,750 City subsidy. The standard package is a Mainline MBV valve, Zoeller M63 pump and Aquanot 508 battery backup on a dedicated GFCI circuit.

How long does a battery backup sump pump run?

About 8-24 hours per charge at 10-25 GPM, depending on how fast water enters your pit. A WiFi alarm warns you before the battery runs low.

Is weeping tile disconnection required in Toronto?

Weeping tile tied to the sanitary sewer must be disconnected under the City's Downspout Disconnection Bylaw and Municipal Code Chapter 681; City data counts 25,000+ homes still connected. Disconnection with a new sump runs $3,200-$5,800.

Should I repair or replace my sump pump?

Replace pumps over 10 years old or with burned motors, seized impellers or cracked basins ($1,500-$2,800). A stuck float or a single failed part on a younger pump is usually a $200-$500 repair.

Do I need a permit to install a sump pump in Toronto?

Often, yes. A Toronto Building drain permit and inspection are required for many installs and are mandatory for the subsidy. We file it for you, which takes about 5 business days.

Do you offer a warranty?

Every install comes with a written 2-year workmanship warranty. The pump manufacturer's warranty applies separately and varies by model.

Do you install sump pumps outside the City of Toronto?

Yes. We serve 20 GTA municipalities including Mississauga, Brampton, Vaughan, Markham, Richmond Hill and Oakville. The City of Toronto subsidy does not apply there; those municipalities run their own programs.
